What’s On This December
The mood is shifting, from November blues to December sparkle! Warwick has done itself proud once again, outshining all the neighbouring towns and villages, including the birthplace of a certain playwright… we’re not naming names but we have compiled a list of what’s on in Warwick this December, from carol services to a themed pub crawl!
What’s On At Warwick Castle?
Even locals wonder what’s on when they see the Castle getting ready for Christmas! It’s practically a grotto in there, with a generous portion of Santa-based magic to appeal to families with small children. For those who don’t want to experience Santa Sleepovers, you can bring the little ones for Stories with Santa or feel elegant with a Christmas-themed afternoon tea.
You can also discover what’s on at night, with an open-air ice rink to show off your skills and a festive market, which you can also enjoy as part of their luminous light trail. You can take a walk along a fully accessible route, taking snapshots of trees adorned with lights, projections and their Nutcracker-inspired entrance. Check out their world-class displays and then hurry back to us at The Four Penny Pub, where you can tell us all about it!
A Thriving December Calendar
Stratford and Coventry offer tempting festive sights, but we think Warwick’s December offerings are truly unique, especially with its emphasis on the community!
Technically, the Warwick Christmas calendar begins in November, with the Victorian Evening. The artisan goods, entertainers, rides and fire spinners also herald the beginning of St Mary’s Christmas Tree Festival, a staple of the Warwick experience. The church will be hosting over 50 brightly decorated trees, sponsored by businesses, communities, groups and schools from all over town. This forest of festive trees stays in place until the 4th of December, so be sure to pop in early and take a look!
St Mary’s has a long ‘what’s on’ list, packed with recitals and concerts. You can attend their Christmas carol concert with an acapella choir on the 20th of December or get goosebumps at a screening of The Snowman, the heavenly music will be played by a live orchestra! Alternatively, you can pop across town to see what’s on at the Bridge House Theatre. For those who love to laugh, you can watch the WISF Improv Troupe perform a fully improvised show, taking audience suggestions and turning them into an unrehearsed and unforgettable festive story!
The 14 Pubs Of Christmas
On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me…
A glass of whisky? Mulled wine? A good old-fashioned pint? It’s all here at The Four Penny Pub!
We’re participating in a child-free trail, adding to the list of what’s on in December. The pubs of Warwick gathered together to create a 12 Pubs of Christmas trail, gradually adding in two more establishments who wanted to take part! Now you can visit 14 pubs, getting your card stamped as you have a festive drink in each one. Once you’ve collected all your stamps, you can be entered into the prize draw, with champagne and tickets to the races on the table! The prize draw will take place on the 21st – ask at the bar for more information or contact us online.
